For those women, breast reduction surgery is the answer. Breast reduction surgery removes fat, glandular breast tissue, and skin to make the breasts smaller and more firm.
While breast augmentation year in and year out is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, for some overly large breasts are nothing but a burden. Dallas plastic surgeon, Dr. Matthew J. Trovato can help address back pain, poor posture, chafing, inability to partake in certain athletic and exercise endeavors, even difficulty in breathing — these are issues that come with overly large breasts. Plus, women can become so self-conscious about the undo attention their breasts generate that they avoid social interaction.
There are different ways to perform breast reduction surgery
Based on the type of incisions used. During your consultation for breast reduction surgery Dallas plastic surgeon, Dr. Matthew J. Trovato will discuss the various breast reduction options with you and together you will settle on the approach that fits your situation. Traditional breast reduction surgery involves the creation of an anchor-shaped incision, which is ideal for patients who have extremely large breasts. This method allows the most fat, tissue, and skin to be removed, but it also causes the most scarring. The nipples and areolas will likely be moved, as well.
A second option is the short-scar technique, known as a vertical incision breast reduction. This method uses incisions around the areola and down to the crease of the breast in the shape of a lollipop. This approach can be effective for women with moderately large breasts. It creates somewhat less scarring. For patients with mostly fatty tissue in their breasts, the scarless breast reduction technique may work. This method utilizes liposuction to reduce the size of the breasts and only tiny incisions are needed to gain access.
Physical activity needs
to be limited for a month
Due to the incisions and the trauma to the breast tissue, recovery from breast reduction surgery is more involved than recovery from augmentation. There will be swelling, soreness, and bruising in the area for several days. Your treated breasts will be bandaged for about two days.
After their Dallas breast reduction surgery, patients are required to wear a surgical support bra for the next few weeks. Physical activity needs to be limited for a month. After two to three weeks, surgical stitches will be removed. This is usually about the time most patients are able to return to work and resume their regular activities. Results are immediate, of course, but they will continue to improve as swelling and bruising passes and the scars begin to fade.
“Had an amazing experience with Dr. Trovato and all of his staff. I was very nervous and had lots of questions and they were very patient with me along the process and answered every question. They made me feel very comfortable the entire time. I will be 4 months post op in one week and I am so pleased with my results. I had zero complications and my scars are looking amazing!” – Katie Crawford

Such risks include scarring, breast asymmetry, loss of sensation in the area, and other typical surgical risks, such as bleeding, anesthetic reactions, and infection. However, most patients are able to recover from breast reduction surgery without any serious complications.
